Below is an interactive map to highlight landfills and recycling centers across the United States. Each state includes one landfill and one recycling center. All of the states have more than one recycling center, but it is important to note what types of various materials are accepted at different locations, therefore one site is highlighted per state. The landfill information mentioned for each state also includes how many landfills in that state are active and how many tons of waste occupies the space. Did you know that California has 175 open landfills, while Maine only has 7 open landfills? Take a look at your state and see how it compares to the rest. Are there less open landfills and less tons of waste, or more?
